Hello readers :)
My name is Chelsea, if you didn't read my about page. I'm new to blogging and I guess im going to start by giving a little back story.
I'm northern Michigan born and raised. Got married at 20 and moved to North Carolina in 2011. My (then) husband was a Marine so that's where he was stationed. He did his 4 years and then we moved back up to Michigan with our son that I had a little over a year after we moved down. It was 2014 when we moved back. I had a daughter about a year after being in Michigan.
I had my daughter at home (on purpose). I had a midwife and a birthing tub. It was an awesome experience and if I ever wanted another child then that would be the route I would go again.
When she was about 6 months old, my (then) husband and I split. About 6 months later I met my boyfriend and we've been together since October 2016.
Anyways, so when I lived in NC I started researching homesteading topics and really wanting animals and a big garden. I spent a lot of my time gathering information and figuring out what would work for us.
I never really got to do much homesteading related thing when I was with my ex-husband because we didn't own land (we just hadn't gotten that far in life) and I did some minor gardening but after I had my daughter I couldn't keep up with is as I was taking care of a newborn.
I have lived in an apartment since October of 2016 and in 2017 I tried doing a container garden on my balcony. I didn't get a thing from those plants. they appeared to grow big and healthy but I didn't see anything from them.
This year I started my plants in container and then I transferred them into my boyfriends yard about mid summer and I can tell you that I'm swimming in tomatoes and I had two small pumpkins this fall that I pureed and put in the freezer for fresh pumpkin pie in Thanksgiving!
I did do potatoes and green beans as well. I had a few green beans, not many, and my potatoes didn't turn out so well as I wasn't able to transplant them.
I also built a chicken coop this summer. It took me some time to gather materials and get the time to have my boyfriend help me with the power tools. Haha. I ended up getting chickens at the end of August so we see the adventures that brings us.
So I hope that my blog is helpful and interesting. Thank you for reading and if anyone has any request's on topics then don't be afraid to ask although, like I said, I'm a beginner on this road to farmsteading ;)
